Sonequa Martin-Green’s Captain Burnham faces a new threat unlike any the Federation has encountered in this new season four teaser trailer.
Captain Burnham is taking charge in the first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season four.
The first look, below, revealed during Paramount+’s First Contact Day virtual events on Monday shows the USS Discovery crew worried abut a gravitational anomaly that’s five light-years wide. The anomaly seems to be wrecking havoc with the ship as there’s also lots of destructive bridge pyrotechnics going on. There’s also shots of Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), newly promoted to captain at the end of season three, taking the captain’s chair in a new red uniform.
“We are facing something we don’t understand, something that could tear us all apart,” Burnham intones.
According to the season’s official description: “Season four of Star Trek: Discovery finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.”
Season three of Discovery was considered by critics to be the Paramount+ show’s strongest season yet, and the flagship has spinoff Strange New Worlds starting production this month. Another Trek series, Star Trek: Picard, is expected to return for season two in 2022. Paramount also released a teaser trailer for the next season of Picard that revealed the return of the popular franchise character Q (John de Lancie).
Discovery season four will premiere later in 2021.
