The five-part Sky original series from Fremantle — charting the early days of the pandemic in the U.K. — is set to air in August 2022.
It’s Kenneth Branagh as you’ve never seen him before.
For an actor who has donned insane moustaches (as detective Hercule Poirot) and a wide array of Shakespearean costumes, the first still of him as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Michael Winterbottom’s TV drama This Sceptred Isle is perhaps him at his most unrecognisable.
Now in production, the five-part series will tell the tale of some of the most devastating events to ever befall the United Kingdom, and of a Prime Minister leading in these unprecedented times. The drama will trace the impact on Britain from this once-in-a-generation pandemic, and the response of scientists, nurses, and doctors as they worked tirelessly and heroically to contain and overcome the virus.
The Sky Original series — due to air in August 2022 — is produced by Fremantle, Richard Brown’s Passenger and Winterbottom’s Revolution Films.
Winterbottom co-wrote This Sceptred Isle with Kieron Quirke, and will direct all five episodes. He also executive produces alongside Brown (Passenger). Melissa Parmenter (Revolution Films) will produce alongside Josh Hyams and Anthony Wilcox. Tim Shipman, political editor of The Sunday Times, is acting as a consultant on the series.
