The ABC drama tops the broadcast networks on a fairly quiet night, while Fox’s ‘The Resident’ reaches a season high in total viewers.
A relatively quiet night on ad-supported TV saw an NBA game on TNT and ABC’s Big Sky leading the adults 18-49 rankings. The Resident was also near the top of the demographic charts for Fox and hit a season high in total viewers.
TNT’s showing of the Boston Celtics’ win over the Golden State Warriors topped the 18-49 demographic across all of ad-supported TV in primetime with a 0.59 rating, to go with 1.73 million total viewers. An earlier game (Brooklyn Nets-L.A. Clippers) posted a 0.57 in the key ad demo and 1.66 million viewers.
Elsewhere on cable, The Rachel Maddow Show (3.56 million viewers) narrowly beat Tucker Carlson Tonight (3.52 million) for the No. 1 slot in total viewers. Fox News had the biggest total audience in primetime with about 2.95 million viewers, while CNN led the key news demo of adults 25-54 with a 0.52 rating (equivalent to about 632,000 viewers in that age group).
On the broadcast nets, Big Sky’s 0.58 among adults 18-49 was good enough for the lead, although the show was off slightly from a week ago in both the demo (vs. 0.61) and total viewers (3.66 million vs. 3.84 million). To Tell the Truth (0.57 in 18-49, 4.31 million viewers), Black-ish (0.51, 2.66 million) and Mixed-ish (0.47, 2.25 million) also declined.
The Resident’s 4.09 million viewers are a season high for the Fox drama, though it was off by a few hundredths of a point in the 18-49 demo at 0.57. Prodigal Son (2.47 million viewers, 0.47 demo) improved a little in both measures. NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (2.24 million, 0.41) dipped a little.
CBS led primetime among total viewers, despite airing reruns in all three hours. An NCIS repeat led the way with 5.08 million people watching.
