They will be honored during the virtual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.
Oscar and Emmy winning make-up artist Matthew Mungle and Emmy-winning hair stylist Terry Baliel will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 8th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (IATSE Local 706), which will be presented as a virtual celebration on April 3.
Mungle won an Oscar as part of the team on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and he earned additional Academy Award nominations for Schindler’s List, Ghosts of Mississippi and Albert Nobbs. He was additionally nominated for 26 Emmys, winning six for titles including The X Files and Six Feet Under.
He has created character prosthetics and masks for the Broadway show Wicked, a project he started in 2003, and through his lab W.M. Creations continues his work for the show’s Broadway, U.S. tours and worldwide productions. His clients also include Robert DeNiro, Glenn Close and Tracey Ullman.
Baliel received Emmys for Hairspray Live!, Deadwood and Miss Rose White, while earning TV credits on series such as Agent Carter and Transparent. His feature work has included How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Last Samurai, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Alice in Wonderland and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek.
He also was wig master at San Diego Opera for nine years. As a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Baliel is currently on a committee to help develop exhibits for the Film Academy museum.
