The news comes roughly half a year after her hiring, which was considered a rare shake-up at the time.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! executive producer Sharon Hoffman is exiting the late night show.
The news comes some seven months after the announcement of her hiring, then characterized as a rare shake-up atop the ABC show. Hoffman was said to be chosen in part because she had a background more firmly rooted in news, which was desirable given that late night — and Kimmel, in particular — had become increasingly political, a tonal shift that’s continued to pay dividends for JKL. The show now regularly bests rival Jimmy Fallon’s decidedly lighter The Tonight Show in the ratings.
In the role, which she formally assumed in early summer, Hoffman shared an executive producer title with Kimmel, as her predecessor Jill Leiderman had for years. During her brief stint, she oversaw a rotation of guest hosts during Kimmel’s summer hiatus and a safe return to the studio this fall. A spokesperson for JKL confirmed her exit but declined to offer any additional comment. The show will continue to be overseen by Kimmel along with his tight-knit team of otherwise long-tenured EPs David Craig, Douglas DeLuca, Erin Irwin, Molly McNearney and Jennifer Sharron.
Hoffman, for her part, had joined the late night show after EP stints at both Entertainment Tonight and the weekend edition of CBS Evening News. Prior to that, she served as part of the team that relaunched CBS This Morning, under Late Show With Stephen Colbert showrunner Chris Licht, and as a producer at Good Morning America.
