Nancy Cordes, Ed O’Keefe and Weijia Jiang will become White House correspondents for the network covering the Biden administration.
CBS News is the latest TV news division to shuffle its Washington D.C. correspondent corp.
The network says that Nancy Cordes, Ed O’Keefe and Weijia Jiang will be its new White House correspondent team, covering the incoming Biden administration. Cordes currently covers Capitol Hill and will become chief White House correspondent, O’Keefe is currently political correspondent and will add White House responsibilities on top of that, while Jiang, who currently covers the White House, will become senior White House correspondent. Paula Reid will leave the White House beat but will continue to repot out of Washington.
Elsewhere, Ben Tracy will take on a new beat as CBS News senior national and environmental correspondent, Nikole Killion and Kris Van Cleave will become CBS News Congressional correspondents, Errol Barnett will be transportation correspondent, Christina Ruffini will add to her responsibilities covering the State Department to join CBS’ weekend newscasts.
“I have taken a fresh look at the needs in D.C. and feel confident that we are putting the right team in place for success,” writes CBS News’ executive VP and Washington bureau chief Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews in a memo to staff Friday. “Our priorities: to break news, provide the audience with original reporting and context and lead the way among our peers. The Washington bureau has served an integral role in the history of our organization and particularly during this unprecedented year. We have extraordinary talent on this team, and I look forward to what we can all do together as we chart the path forward.”
CBS follows Fox News, NBC News and CNN in making changes to its D.C. correspondent teams, ahead of Biden’s inauguration next week.
