For those who are eagerly waiting for the crazy Suicide Squad to come back, we have great news. According to actor Joel Kinnaman, the sequel will start shooting in 2018. The team is already working on writing the script, so a 2018 shooting seems to be quite accurate. Of course, this could change, depending on various aspects. Suicide Squad 2 should be released in 2019, so it’s quite a tight schedule. However, it’s possible that everything will go according to plans and the movie will arrive in due time.
At this point, it’s still uncertain who will direct Suicide Squad 2. Even though Kinnaman stated he would like to continue working with David Ayer, this seems to be highly unlikely. The director already started directing DC’s Gotham City Sirens. Also, Ayer is said to have entered negotiations to direct the Scarface reboot. Shortly, he seems to have a lot on his plate right now, which makes it almost impossible for him to return for Suicide Squad 2 as a director. Rumor had it that Mel Gibson could direct Suicide Squad 2. However, no one confirmed this rumor until now. Guy Ritchie also showed interest in directing the sequel. Now that the team is close to starting shooting, we can expect Warner Bros. and DC to announce who the lucky director will be.
Suicide Squad turned out to be a blockbuster, even though critics didn’t seem to appreciate it much. However, moviegoers turned it into a great success with a collective global cume of $745.6 million. The crazy characters will definitely return in Suicide Squad 2 also, hopefully making it even more entertaining than the original movie was. We are eager to see who the director will be, first. The success or the failure of the sequel really depends on who will direct it. We expect Warner Bros. and DC to announce the lucky guy soon.
