Smite wants you to be Expelled from Hel.
Smite has a new update on the way. The popular MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) will receive Patch 3.11 sometime in the next ten days. Dubbed “Expelled from Hel,” the patch has already been released for PC players, on June 21st.
The patch includes new skins for several of the playable gods and goddesses, including the patch’s namesake, the Norse goddess Hel. Also included are tweaks for in game items and characters to maintain game balanc. These include the Norse god Ratatoskr and Japanese Susano, whose recent rework and official release, respectively, have catapulted both to the status of first pick in many game modes. Ironically, no rework is listed for the goddess Hel herself, despite being the namesake for the update. More notable is the implementation of a coupon system for the in-game store, where players can spend in-game currency or real money to purchase gods, skins, item bundles, and other peripherals that add visual flare to the game. While Hi-Rez stresses that this coupon system is only in beta stages at this time, it is a welcome feature to the game’s otherwise very traditional free-to-play model. A full list of the patch notes can be found here.
Smite is the latest game developed by Hi-Rez Studios, who are known for the critically acclaimed Tribes: Ascend and Global Agenda. Originally released on PC, Smite entered open beta for the Xbox One early last year, following with the official release on August 19. A PlayStation 4 port was released on May 31 of this year.
