Update: Looking back, we should have held off on posting about the NieR: Automata Fan Festival for a short while. The NieR “tease” that Square Enix director and producer Yosuke Saito posted to Twitter was unrelated to a new project, and the event is currently live in Japan.
No, a piece of information indicating that NieR Automata has now sold 7 million copies was concealed by the black card. We think congratulations are due.
So the “reveal” at the NieR:Automata fan festival was that NieR:Automata shipped out 7m units w https://t.co/y7D8Iat97P pic.twitter.com/w3BBjTgDaR

Original Article Fans of NieR awoke this morning to a flurry of rumors about the potential launch of a new project. Everything started because Square Enix producer and director Yosuke Saito shared a picture of an upcoming stage on Twitter. This weekend, the NieR: Automata Fan Festival will be held at the Tokyo Garden Theater in Japan, and said stage will be a part of that event.
As you can see, the stage design appears to have a secret logo. There are prominent logos for the previous releases NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata, but a third logo is obscured by a piece of black card. Even in his tweet, Saito teases this reality.

Everyone is therefore interested in learning what the card covers. The most exciting possibility, of course, is that a new game will be revealed at the event, but with NieR, who knows? Even though it seems like we should be getting a new installment, we would probably advise against having too high of expectations. After all, Automata was released for the PS4 more than five years ago.
But it’s important to note that this will be a fairly low-key event; it won’t be a huge NieR showcase or anything. A live band will play game music, and prominent members of the development team, such as series writer and director Yoko Taro, are scheduled to moderate panels. We’re not sure if this is the type of venue where Square Enix would introduce a brand-new game in a franchise that has grown to be fairly well-known, but you never know.
