Week 4 of the LCS was the week that affirmed what everyone was already thinking. Nothing crazy happened, there were no super amazing upsets, and the performances were exactly what everyone expected. Let’s get into it.
As always, if you just want the bare bare minimum, there’s a tl;dr at the bottom of the page.
CLG Continues to Fall
CLG fans were hoping to see their team break out of their slump, but instead saw them sink even deeper into it. Huhi in particular has been struggling to perform to CLG‘s standards, being unable to carry his weight when playing mechanic intensive champions like Azir. Aphromoo and Xmithie have been tearing it up and putting the team on their backs, being largely responsible for the CLG‘s victories. If CLG is going to make it to Worlds, they’re going to need to either bench Huhi or have him play simpler Champions. With their only win this week against last place team Phoenix1 and Huhi costing them their win against Immortals, things aren’t looking too good for the Spring Split Champions.
A Dose of Reality for Team Envy
Coming into Week 4 all eyes were on Envy, as everyone waited to see how the new team stacked up to Cloud 9 and TSM. Fans were wondering if Team Envy would be the new Cloud 9, coming in on the Summer Split to take the world by storm.
They were disappointed.
Beaten soundly by both TSM and Cloud 9, Envy got 2-0’d by the LCS heavyweights, having the wind taken right out of their sails. It’s not too late for them though. Sitting in fourth, if Envy learns from their mistakes they could come back at the end of the split and steal their wind right back.
Top 3 Established
TSM, Immortals, and Cloud 9 are the officially the powerhouses this Split. Holding first, second, and third place respectively, these team’s consistent performances this first half of the Summer Split have set them apart from the competition. TSM is looking like the best team NA has seen in awhile. Immortals, while not as scary as last split, is reminding the world that their performance last Split wasn’t an accident. Cloud 9 is looking fierce with Meteos back in the squad, and their team synergy is at an all time high. Envy is still a wild card, and it’s still too early to count Team Liquid out for the count, but TSM, IMT, and C9 are the teams to beat.
