Team EnVyUs are one of the biggest e-Sports organisations in world gaming. They have teams in just about every game and are one of the biggest players in console gaming. Team EnVyUs where formed in 2007 but did not announce a pro team for Halo until 2015. They started strong with the acquisition of Richie “Heinz” Heinz and Justin “iGotUrPistola” Deese. After their first tournament Heinz left for “Team Liquid” and was replaced by legendary player Tom “OGRE2” Ryan, considered by most to be the greatest player of all time, who retired for the second time shortly after his first tournament with EnVyUs. During the next week a team changing frenzy occurred sparked by LethuL’s shock move from “Evil Geniuses” to CLG. During this EnVyUs managed to acquire ‘eL TowN’ from Allegiance, who placed 2nd at worlds. This surprised the community and along with the presence of Pistola, was enough for EnVyUs to receive an invite to the Pro League Qualifiers. They placed 2nd in their group behind “Team Allegiance” which was enough to qualify.
Team EnVyUs have undergone a few changes since their introduction to Pro Halo but have now found a solid team that seems to have what it takes to do well in the league, they are:
First of all we have the legend that is Justin “iGotUrPistola” Deese. Gamertag: Z0la x HunterZ (Formally: iGotUrPisto1a). Age:23
Pistola is one of the few legendary players still active in the game, he has been on the circuit since 2007 and has played alongside every big name in Pro Halo. Pistola is most often referred to as “The Wizard” for his seemingly unnatural ability at the game. Many pros consider Pistola the hardest player in the game to eliminate due to his keen ability to stay alive. There really aren’t words to describe this man’s play style, all I can recommend is watching him play while you wish you where this good at anything in life.
The youngest player on Team EnVyUs is Austin “Mikwen” McCleary. Gamertag: ImiKWeN. Age:16
At only 16 Mikwen has already had an impressive career in Pro Halo, starting in 2009 and making his way through 10 teams before finding himself at EnVyUs. Clearly destined to be a Halo Pro Mikwen was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. (Battle Creek being the name of an iconic multiplayer map on Halo: CE). Mikwen always displays great individual skill but has yet to find any real success on a team level, hopefully under Pistola’s guidance he can buck this trend.
Next up we have Visal “eL TowN” Mohanan. Gamertag: eL TowN. Age:23
eL TowN first tried his hand at competitive Halo in 2008 and then again in 2013 however, he did not manage to make a lasting impression. He returned to the game in 2015 to join “Velocity e-Sports” followed by “eXcellence Gaming” before a successful stint at “Team Allegance” where he did not place lower than 3rd including their 2nd place finish at Worlds netting $500,000. Since joining EnVyUs he has displayed some wonderful link up play with his new team often winning MVP.
Last but not least is Tim “Rayne” Tinkler. Gamertag: Rayne nV. Age:22
Rayne burst onto the scene with the release of Halo 5, joining up with “Nobel e-Sports” and good friend Penguin, currently of Renegades. After a fifth place finish at regionals there was some dispute between the Nobel organization and the team resulting in their full roster transferring to “Team eLevate”. eLevate then managed 4th placed at the Halo World Championship earning themselves $250,000 however, they failed to qualify for the Pro League, fortunately for Rayne he had performed well enough to earn a contract with “Team EnVyUs”. Rayne is “at least 7x worse” than Penguin.
Team EnVyUs are off to a great start in the Pro League currently sitting 2nd having only lost once, to the undefeated CLG. The quality of the individuals on show is indisputably fantastic but what has impressed most is the instant team bond that EnVyUs seems to have gained. Can they win the League? With Pistola at the Helm, anything is possible. Watch Team EnVyUs’ title challenge every Thursday and Friday at 5pm (PT) on Twitch, or head over to Halo.gg.
Happy Gaming.
