I’ve been a Batman fan all my life and love the games, although I’ve only played The Batman on the Genesis and the extremely buggy Batman Arkham Knight on my PC. Like many, I was excited about the Batman Arkham remaster collection that was originally supposed to be released in July. So I can understand Warner Bros. delaying the game to give us an impressive remaster.
So let’s dive in the old remaster collection of Batman Arkham that was announced last month to see what can be improved.
To start off, let’s take a look at some of the villians shall we. In the original Doctor Strange looked stunning and he is extremely detailed, you can see it in his face and shirt. Now in Unreal Engine 4 the remaster one, he’s dull. Yes there is more light on him to make him look more realistic but that takes away from his shadows and gives him little details in his face and shirt. This is definitely one character that can be improved with color correction, and contrast settings.
The scenery can be improved as well. The original uses Unreal Engine 3 but the remaster seems that liked it has been rushed and the developers didn’t put in much effort – maybe because they didn’t want to go back to a game they felt was already completely finished and wanted to move on to another project but we’re told by management they had to do it before that happened. If that is the case I can understand that. But let’s hope with more depth of field correction the city, sky and all of the background scenery can look even better than the original when the player wants to take in the view.
Now I believe that some of the villians look a tad better – like Catwoman, The Joker, The Penguin, Crocodile and Harley Quinn, although I feel her tattoo design can be improved with color correction and contrast settings and the same can be said about Poison Ivy and her tattoo. But again, if all of them have their color correction and contrast settings fixed to give them more details than that would make all of us Batman fans happy, or we can always just play the originals.
Batman Arkham remaster bundles will be coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC when it is released. Now I don’t know when any new information about the bundled remasters will be out but, I know I can’t wait to see how the developerst at Rocksteady Studios tackle this.
