The Battlefield 1 release date is just a few months away, and what better way to get ahead of the game than with a player class breakdown. Previous Battlefield titles have adopted the class selection mechanic for some time and the newest installment is no different, this is something the developers do quite well. Here we are going to look into the five new classes this World War I shooter has to offer:
- Assault Class: if you choose this specialization, be prepared for close quarter fighting with a side of explosive expertise. Assault fighters will be the experts of taking down any type of armored vehicles from tanks to aircraft, but fear not, they can still hold their own against enemy infantry.
- Support Class: these guys are self explanatory, support your mates! Support troops will come equipped with different types of gadgets, they will also be packing heavy weapons for medium and close-ranged combat providing that much needed suppressing fire when holding down a point. If you are fighting alongside a Support class, remember to spam that “Need Ammo!” button.
- Medic Class: do not be fooled by the name, if you deploy as a Medic, you will not just be healing teammates but you will be repairing vehicles as well. Specializing in medium-ranged weapons, Medics are trained in the art combat just as much as any other class. If you encounter one of the field, do not take them lightly.
- Scout Class: the thorn in everyone’s side. If you have the patience and the timing, you will definitely want to play as the Scout/Recon class. These soldiers can take out enemies in the blink of an eye using long-ranged sniper rifles. Along with covering your six, Scouts can provide that much-needed recon for you and your team.
- Pilot or Tanker Class: pilot some of the most historic war-machines of WWI, however, use caution when selecting one of these two new roles. Deploying in either of these classes means you trade up your class kit, your cockpit now becomes your primary weapon, no more vehicle hopping.
There you have it, the classes of Battlefield 1. Most notably, the Engineer class is missing from the list, according to Weapon Designer Julian Schimek at Dice:
“Classic Engineers are no more in Battlefield 1. But worry not, their abilities live on!“
Schmiek referring to the fact that Engineering duties are split between Medic and Assault classes, Medics taking on the vehicle repairs and Assault fighters doing the opposite. As part of Battlefield history, load-out customization has always been a fun touch when selecting a class. Players have always had the option to pick the weapons and gadgets they perform well with, along with making that visual change to set themselves apart from other soldiers, friendly or not. There is no doubt Battlefield 1 will bring back plenty of unlockables from weapon skins to solider emotes. Oh don’t forget those shiny dog-tag emblems!
