Hi all! Here is a list of three awesome female gaming characters that I personally think are some of the best. There are of course many more than just three, which is why this is only Part 1, and this will be followed up by further installments. I wanted to keep this list at only three characters in order to keep this short and to the point. By the way, these are in no particular order! Here goes…
- Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
Okay, so Lara is placed on every list of female video game characters, but that’s because she’s amazing. A girl who could fight off hungry piranhas and wolves, work out hundreds of puzzles to open doors and kill tons of enemies all on her own for the sake of archaeology? She definitely has to be first on this list. Also, it’s worth remembering that she has been around since 1996 – that is 20 years of action and ancient archaeology right there! I wonder if Lara’s dad wasn’t Lord Richard Croft, and secretly Indiana Jones? We’ll never know, but what we do know, is that Lara Croft is one of the strongest and most recognisable lead characters of any game series, and she also holds six Guinness World Records.
- Rubi Malone (Wet)
I’m not too sure how many people ever played Wet, but it was great fun. Rubi Malone seemed as though she was born wielding a Samurai sword, and could’ve probably given Beatrix Kiddo a run for her money when she was on the journey to Kill Bill. A battle between those two would’ve been something to see. Anyway, another reason to love Rubi is that her character was voiced by Eliza Dushku, the actress that slayed vampires, beat up cannibals and also voiced Catwoman a couple of times back in 2011. It is definitely fair to say that Rubi is athletic; she can run along walls and jump through the air in order to get the perfect angle to kill her enemies. Oh and forget the painkillers and bandages, this girl manages to regenerate her health through drinking whiskey.
- Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite)
Our first non-playable character on the list is Elizabeth. She’s not a fighter like most characters, but instead is quite the opposite, being fairly naïve and innocent. However, she has strength in her powers, which enable her to open up entrances to parallel universes in the form of ‘tears’. These tears can provide a portal to travel through or even provide access to weaponry. Imagine that, being able to manipulate space and time at your own free will, that is pretty damn powerful. As well as that, she also has a giant mechanical bird, called ‘Songbird’, for a pet. Okay, maybe not a pet and more of a guardian, but provides to be a helpful protector for Elizabeth. A well done to Bioshock Infinite for creating a sidekick character that’s not only vital to the story, but also doesn’t get on your nerves! Elizabeth is a powerful character and a very likable one at that.
That’s it for Part 1! Keep an eye out for more awesome female gaming characters coming up in the following installments.
