Twitter being what it is and the deeply underwhelming launch of the much-maligned and much-delayed Mighty No. 9 being what it is, the fickle people of the internet have begun to dog pile. Even gaming’s most beloved blue speedster, Sonic The Hedgehog is getting his jabs in where he can.
Congrats on the launch, @MightyNo9!

Sonic’s always been known for his ’tude I guess.
After a surreal Mighty No. 9 launch day stream where game creator and director Keiji Inafune remarked that, at this point, the game was “better than nothing,” (via Vice,) things have begun to snowball. Much-aggrieved fans seem to be grasping the opportunity to take their shots, with a lukewarm at best critical response lending some amount of justification to the game’s brutal roasting. Besides Mighty No. 9’s apparently overall poor presentation, glitches and other issues plague its accompanying DLC. It’s currently sitting at a metacritic average of 57 with a resoundingly more harsh user average of 2.6.
It’s been a while since the gaming industry and its fans have staged a proper witch-hunt, for better or worse. After collecting just under a whopping 4 million bucks in its initial run on Kickstarter and propped up as the spiritual successor to the near-defunct Mega Man series, Mighty No. 9 was set to be one of indie gaming’s biggest hits and a shining example of passionate gamers getting what they want in spite of a large corporate gaming entity.
Well things don’t always work out the way we want them to, huh? So sayeth Sonic The Hedgehog.
