Everybody loved Nokia back in the days. If you didn’t own a Nokia cell phone, you wished you did. Unfortunately, after smartphones took over, Nokia seemed to be unable to keep up with the rest of cell phone manufacturers. In a few year, its name and glory faded away. Now, HMD Global, the company that develops and markets smartphones and feature phones under the “Nokia” brand wants to reinstate the former glory of the brand. They already released a number of Nokia smartphones this year, but they saved the best for last. The Nokia 9 will be the company’s flagship device and it might actually be able to compete with other flagship smartphones of this year.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a clear launch date for the Nokia 9. We do know that it will arrive sometime in mid- to late 2017, but an exact release date was not set yet. Or at least, HMD Global and Nokia did not share this information with us. They will probably announce the handset during the summer and release it in the fall. There are only a few months to go until we can get our hand on it, so we are eager to see what it will have to offer.
Thankfully, the rumor mill already started. Reports suggest a capable smartphone with some high-end features. Here si what we know so far about the device. It will reportedly feature a 5.5-inch quadHD display. This is quite a reasonable size for a smartphone nowadays. Flagship devices are usually larger than this, however, the 5.5-inch handset could prove to be easier to handle, which makes it quite appealing. The fact that it is an OLED display and not an LCD one means that colors will be more vivid and vibrant, ensuring a great visual experience. The design of the handset is also said to be a nice one. The Nokia 9 will reportedly have an all-metal body and it will be water resistant.
The really interesting features are hidden under the hood. According to rumors, the Nokia 9 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and an Adreno 540 GPU. These features are also present in the majority of this year’s flagship handsets, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Also, the handset will reportedly include 6GB of RAM, which is actually more impressive than what the aforementioned flagships have to offer. There were also rumors of 4GB of memory and 8GB of RAM, so either one is possible. It is also possible that the Nokia 9 will come in three versions, one with 4GB of RAM, another with 6GB of RAM, and the most premium version with 8GB of RAM. Depending on when it will launch, it will run on Android Nougat or Android O.
On the camera front, the Nokia 9 seems to be an interesting device. The handset will probably have a 22MP dual- lens Carl Zeiss camera on the back, and a 12MP front-facing snapper. Dual rear camera setups are not exactly a novelty nowadays. However, if the Nokia 9’s camera will be able to capture some great images, it could win a lot of fans. We will know more when we will actually get to use the smartphone. The battery of the Nokia 9 will also be quite impressive, according to rumors. The smartphone will reportedly come with a 3,800mAh power pack. Given its size and energy-efficient processor, it should ensure quite a nice battery life. The handset will also feature fast charging support, which is also great.
Other features of the Nokia 9 will reportedly include an iris scanner, 3D audio recording, and a fingerprint sensor. Of course, all this will come at a high price. The Nokia 9 will probably cost somewhere around $700. Naturally, if there will be several memory or storage versions, this price will go up. How high will it get, we still don’t know. Nokia will announce the handset in a few weeks, and then we will find out everything there is to know about the smartphone.
