Samsung is one busy tech giant. The company constantly develops new technology and delivers great gadgets. Innovative displays seem to be one of the company’s major focuses. After the stretchable display, Samsung even developed a wristband display, at least it patented one. It will come on a Samsung smartwatch at some point. The information comes from SamMobile, who discovered a patent recently filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). We already knew Samsung has developed a bendable display, and the wristband display probably relies on the same technology. After all, in order to be comfortable, it does need to be flexible, doesn’t it?
Naturally, the Samsung smartwatch that will have the wristband display will also feature a normal screen. According to the reports, the wristband display will be more like the edge display we now have on smartphones. Users will be able to access several apps more easily from this secondary display. The majority of use love this feature of the edge screen smartphones, so we don’t see why people would not enjoy it on a smartwatch too. The wristband display will not be the only new feature of the Samsung smartwatch. It will reportedly also offer a built-in camera. Current Samsung smartwatches don’t do this, so it would be a nice improvement.
What is even greater about the Samsung smartwatch’s camera, besides its existence, is the fact that it will reportedly feature an optical zoom. Not only will users be able to capture images with their Samsung smartwatch, the pictures will also be high-quality. However, we don’t expect the smartwatch cameras to be as performant as the ones on smartphones. Even so, they can prove to be quite useful when users would like to leave their smartphones at home and enjoy a day out only with their smartwatch on.
The Samsung smartwatch with the wristband display and the integrated camera seems to be a great one. However, we should keep in mind that at this point, the South Korean tech giant only filed for a patent. This means that the smartwatch could become reality, but there is no certainty it will actually arrive soon. As a matter of fact, we don’t even know whether Samsung will decide to manufacture the gadget or not. However, given the popularity of the edge displays, a smartwatch that would offer something similar seems to be a great idea.
Manufacturing this gadget will most likely not be an easy thing to do. Samsung has pulled off some innovative projects before, so we don’t question its ability to manufacture this Samsung smartwatch either. If the project goes on and Samsung releases this smartwatch, it will most likely be a beautiful gadget to own, and it will have a lot to offer. We’ll keep an eye out for what Samsung will do with the patent. As soon as we know something more concrete about the Samsung smartwatch, we’ll let you know. Would you like to have such a smartwatch? What would you rather have: the wristband display or the integrated camera?
