It looks like NVIDIA is getting ready to unleash a new graphics card called the GeForce GT 1030, which will be aiming to take on and bring down AMD’s new Radeon RX 550. The graphics card will cater to gamers with low-end PCs where users aren’t looking for the greatest specs available, with a price tag coming somewhere under the $80 mark.
AMD Grabs Entry Level Attention With The Radeon RX 550
AMD recently updated their entry level Radeon RX 500 cards with the Radeon RX 560. This card comes with a price tag of just $99, and offers a similar performance to the GeForce GTX 1050. However, AMD has now thrown another wrench at NVIDIA by releasing another entry level card in the Radeon RX 500 series called the Radeon RX 550. This card utilizes the Polaris 12 GPU and comes with 512 stream processors and up to 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. The big ringer here is that this card costs just $79, though it does feature half of the shaders of the RX 560. However, the low price tag is going to be very popular among those who aren’t looking to break the bank and just want something that can keep their rig afloat.
NVIDIA recently updated their Pascal lineup that features graphics cards that cater to just about any kind of PC gamer out there. Those looking for a top-of-the-line experience can grab the $699 GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, but those at the entry level have the $109 GeForce GTX 1050 to check out. They have a lineup that can fit the needs of a lot of gamers out there, but right now they’re a little behind AMD in the entry level department.
The Alleged NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
This brings us to the alleged NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030, which is set to be NVIDIA’s response to the Radeon RX 550. While the specific name of the card has not yet been revealed, we do know that it won’t use the GeForce GTX tag and will cost somewhere under $80. It will ship with 512 CUDA cores and a VRAM of 2/4 GB GDDR5, and will have a 64-bit memory bus with a 30w TDP. This certainly puts it in the same league as the Radeon RX 550, and if the rumored prices of $59-$69 hold true then it will be even more attractive to entry level users.
While we’re still waiting for the confirmed specifications and price points, there’s no question that NVIDIA is attempting to strike back hard against AMD for dominance in the entry level PC hardware space. It won’t be the card that will be able to run games like next month’s Prey, but should suit those looking for a more casual experience just fine. We’re expecting to get more news early next month, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
