The Sony Xperia XA1, first shown off at the MWC 2017 in Barcelona, will become available for purchase starting May 1. Customers can already pre-order the mid-range smartphone from select online retailers. The handset will have a $299,99 price tag without a subscription. The Sony Xperia XA1 might be a mid-range smartphone, but this doesn’t mean it doesn’t have anything extraordinary to offer. Besides the fact that it looks nice, it has an amazing rear camera which is probably its best feature.
The handset’s design is a simple one, with pointy corners and rather thick bezels both on the top and on the lower part of the device. These bezels might look a little bad, but the Xperia XA1 compensates with the almost edge-to-edge display instead. In translation, it doesn’t really have side bezels. The Sony Xperia XA1 has a 5-inch, 720p display. Even though the resolution of the screen is far from being impressive, given its size the resulting images should be of decent quality. Of course, a 1080p resolution would have been a lot better. The 64-bit MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor is more than enough to keep things in order. The overall performance of the handset is a good one. However, don’t expect it to be as fast or responsive as a high-end device.
The Sony Xperia XA1 includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot that supports up to 256GB additional storage. As we already mentioned, its best feature is the 23MP rear camera. The manufacturing company promises this camera is able to capture amazing quality images, and they could be right about this. The selfie camera of the device has an 8MP sensor, which is also a decent or even a more than a decent feature. The 2,300mAh battery is not impressive at all, but given the fact that the handset runs on Android Nougat, which is power-efficient, it should be enough to take users through the day on a single charge.
The Sony Xperia XA1 lacks a fingerprint sensor, but this is not really surprising. Not every mid-ranger has one to show off. Sony will also launch the Xperia XA1 Ultra soon. This device has a 6-inch display with 1080p resolution and a larger, 2,700mAh battery. There is a difference in the front facing camera also. The Ultra sports a 16MP sensor instead of the base model’s 8MP one. Of course, the extra features will also cost more.
