Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger with every generation. So did laptops, until recently, but now it seems that the ultra-portable netbooks are coming back too. The tiniest laptop that is available these days is the GPD Pocket. As its name suggests, this little gadget perfectly fits into your pocket while running the full version of Windows 10. Even though the majority of people don’t need such a device, whose who often need to complete work out of the office will certainly think it is useful.
The GPD Pocket might look like a netbook, but it is much more than that. It is actually a fully functioning laptop squeezed into a tiny body. The GPD Pocket started out as an Indiegogo project and easily managed to raise over $3million in funding. The project recently ended, so at this point, possible customers can’t pre-order it. However, according to the manufacturing company, it will start shipping in June. Naturally, it will first reach those who funded the campaign. We will probably not see it become globally available in the summer, but it could be released before the end of the year.
The GPD Pocket really looks like a miniature high-end laptop. It is small, thin, and has a premium design. The aluminum body of the mini laptop and its 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution 7-inch display turns it into an eye-catching gadget. But its looks aren’t all it has to impress with. GPD managed to squeeze a lot of power into this small device. The GPD Pocket has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and it includes up to 8GB of RAM. It features active cooling, so all this power won’t result in overheating the device. The Pocket comes with Windows 10 or Ubuntu 16.04 LTS pre-installed. Basically, it can do everything a regular laptop can, it’s only easier to carry around.
Some people might think that such a tiny device can’t offer a lot in terms of storage and connectivity. They couldn’t be more wrong. The GPD Pocket comes with 128GB storage and it features a USB Type-C port, a Type-A USB, HDMI port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Realtek audio system and the built-in stereo speakers are able to ensure a pretty nice audio quality. naturally, the Pocket offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The 7,000mAh battery is able to ensure up to 12 hours of use on a single charge.
OK, it sounds great, but it probably is extremely expensive. Wrong again! Those who were inspired enough to back the Indiegogo project could get their hands on one of these beauties for only $399. Naturally, those who missed out on this occasion will have to pay a little more for the GPD Pocket. The retail price of the device is $599. There are laptops that come for lower prices, but none of them is this portable, and definitely, the more affordable gadgets don’t offer the specs the GPD Pocket does.
