The LG G6 is the latest flagship device from the South Korean company. At first look, the new handset impresses with its simple, yet somewhat appealing looks and its incredibly big and beautiful display. However, its design is not the only feature that recommends this smartphone. The LG G6 also has a lot to offer in the security section. Out of the box, the LG G6 only offers a fingerprint sensor for added security, besides the password protections and such we are all used to. This will change soon, according to The Investor.
According to this source, LG is going to partner up with Oez, the developer of OezFR software in order to add 3D facial recognition to its flagship device. If everything goes well, the 3D facial recognition software should become available as soon as June. The new software will not only unlock the smartphone. It will also provide access to LG Pay. This way, the Korean company’s mobile payment service could become the first one to offer 3D facial recognition. This is despite the Samsung Galaxy S8, which features facial recognition software, but Galaxy S8 owners can’t use the feature to authenticate with Samsung Pay.
LG had to choose between multiple software developers. According to the Investor, the Korean company opted for Oez for several reasons. LG Electronics used the Oez’s software on other devices too, including the LG V20 and G5. Also, the software developer’s face-scanning program takes up only 3.5 to 5 megabytes of memory. Last but not least, OEZ’s facial recognition software offers extra security measures. This way, the software can not be hacked with pictures. More and more smartphone nowadays feature facial recognition. In some cases, the technology is great, in others, hackers can easily gain access to the devices. Hopefully, the facial recognition software on the LG G6 will be bulletproof.
