Some of you who are super into character creation as much as I am may remember an interesting little 3 minute video posted about two years ago from Black Desert Online, the Korean MMORPG by video game developer Pearl Abyss. In the video, it shows off amazingly in-depth, very strict attention to detail tweaks you can make to your original character, from changing how curly or straight the hair is, to individually changing the iris shapes and eye colors of each eye, to how bulky or thin certain limbs are. Since then, Black Desert has remained strictly for closed beta access, keeping the most nitty-gritty character creation in recent memory mostly limited.
At least, that’s been the case, until today.
The character creation engine for Black Desert is currently available to download as a standalone program for everyone to use, and is absolutely, completely free. The announcement was made earlier today via the MMORPG’s official Twitter:
I’m still waiting for my download to finish myself (about 16 more minutes as of writing this!), but I know that once it finishes, I’m probably going to be staying up until the wee hours of the morning just playing around with this. I’ll most likely also be posting my opinions and review of this sometime soon, and will even include some of my little creations!
Black Desert has been in development since 2010 and has been in closed beta since October of 2013. It’s scheduled to be released for purchase in North America and Europe sometime this year.
