2017 has been a great year for the Resident Evil series so far, with Resident Evil 7 launching in January and breathing new life into the series. While planning for the sequel is already underway, it’s much more likely that we’ll be getting another game in the series before that.
The game in question is the remake of Resident Evil 2, which was announced quite a while ago now and has been quietly in the works ever since. However, according to Capcom’s Hiroyuki Kobayashi the remake is going to release “soon.” Kobayashi recently did an interview with Collider, and he was asked if there were any upcoming projects that fans could look forward to. He replied with the following:
“The only thing I can tell you is about something that’s already out in the public. Resident Evil 2, a remade version, the game, will be out from Capcom soon.”
It’s surprising that he would claim that such a big title would be releasing soon, especially when considering it had no presence at this year’s E3. However, there are still some major gaming events on the horizon, so it’s entirely possible that we get an official announcement within the next couple of months. Gamescom would seem to be the most likely of places where we would get an announcement, which will take place this August.
A remake of Resident Evil 2 has been anticipated by fans for many years now, especially considering how well the remake of the first game turned out. It will be great to see that game updated with today’s hardware capabilities, and perhaps smooth out some of the game’s rough edges. It’s likely that they will be making some tweaks to improve and expand upon the game, but they haven’t released any information yet.
The next big Resident Evil release we know about is the Not a Hero DLC for Resident Evil 7. It was originally set to launch within the Spring of this year, though Capcom decided to delay it in order to make it as good as it can be. We didn’t receive any updates on it during E3, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as more information becomes available.
