Respawn announced a new Titanfall 2 drop today in the form of Monarch’s Reign. The free content will drop on 5/30 and comes with a host of new features, a brand new titan being one of them.
“Monarch is a mid-range Vanguard-class Titan that can upgrade itself on the battlefield through her unique Upgrade Core.” This new beast looks like it will be a unique addition to the Titan roster. Upgrades will be selected in the form of an upgrade tree and it sounds like you’ll have to pick certain paths to progress down.
Respawn says that the design is based on two destroyed Vanguard-class Titans that have been stitched together by the IMC. “While the Vanguard-class was designed by the Militia for armed recon deep behind enemy lines, the IMC’s mandate for Monarch focused on flexibility through survival and support options, to serve many operational roles.” The Upgrade Core installed into this new Titan by the IMC is an R&D innovation. The Monarch will also have the ability to draw power from enemy Titans to restore its (and its allies) shields. I really hope there won’t be balancing issues with this new big piece of metal.
That’s not the only big news for this content drop. Monarch’s Reign will additionally have two new Prime Titans and a brand new map. “Set among the old wreck of the IMC carrier IMS Odyssey, Relic is a worksite where Pilots have created clever wall running routes by hanging pieces of the wreckage between buildings.” The map is said to consist of the wreck of the Odyssey. The crashed ship will apparently split two town areas. Controlling the center is going to be key in this new map. Respawn encourages you to get to the middle and use the wrecked ship for vantage points and cover.
Other notable new features for the Titanfall 2 drop will be a new execution and a map update for Crashsite. Respawn is reportedly adding 8 zip lines to the Crashsite map and have already cleaned up “100 instances of getting bumped, bonked, stuck or tripped up.” The new execution is for use in cloak and remains a mystery.
Respawn is setting a wonderful example when it comes to releasing additional content. Free content updates are a direct affront to the horrible standards that other companies have unfortunately laid out for DLC. I couldn’t have high enough praise for Titanfall 2 in its current state, and this update just adds to my admiration.
