Last year saw Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen get re-released on PC, bringing the underrated game to a new platform and introducing the series to a new crowd of gamers. The port was done well and performed admirably in the sales department, and now the game will be coming to even more platforms in the future.
It has been revealed that the game will now be coming to both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the initial Japanese release announcement being followed up with a Western release announcement. No information was given regarding any new changes coming to the game, though it’s likely that it will be similar to the port that was released on PC last year. That one updated the visuals and frame-rate, which will likely be coming to the new console versions, as well.
Dragon’s Dogma originally launched in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, before getting a new version on the aforementioned platforms as the Dark Arisen version. This marks the fifth year anniversary of the original release, though there has still been no information regarding if there will ever be a sequel. The hopes with the PC re-release was to stir up interest in the series again, which could then pave the way for a sequel down the road. It’s likely that the new console versions will be serving a similar purpose, with sales being used to gauge interest and potentially support a sequel.
For those who have never played the game before, it is an action RPG developed by Capcom. It features an open world fantasy setting, with hack and slash gameplay elements being the core of the combat. Players are also able to mount the numerous and monstrous enemies in the game, which adds a twist to the combat that many other games don’t have.
Be sure to stay tuned for when we get more information on the exact release date for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
