Bandai Namco has announced that it will be releasing a balance patch for Dark Souls III on April 5th. This patch will be live at 7:00 PM Pacific Standard Time for consoles and 2:00 AM the following morning for Steam. This is a regulation update, Community Manager /u/Kummundi explains, meaning that FromSoftware does not have the same liberties as they do with a full patch. The patch notes, hosted at /r/darksouls3, describe adjustments to elements of The Ringed City that have frustrated fans. Some weapons and infusions will also see changes effecting players of the base Dark Souls III content.
One of the biggest complaints about The Ringed City has been the presence of Angels, winged white beasts who shower the player with arrows of light at every opportunity. These creatures cannot be killed by ranged attacks and must be avoided as the player navigates the first several areas of the game. Their overall damage has been reduced. The stealth sorcery Hidden Body, which conceals the player as an item found within the nearby environment, will now be effective against them.
Further adjustments will be made to the Spear of the Church, the online player versus player boss guarding the game’s final area. Their homing spears will now do less damage. Their Church Guardian comrades, who seek to overwhelm solo players, have also had their health reduced in one-on-one encounters. This will relieve players who avoid co-op, but have struggled against overwhelming odds presented by the boss. Members of the PvP covenant required to be summoned as a boss themselves have expressed unhappiness that they will have an even harder time dealing with being outnumbered by summoned help.
Numerous balance changes effect Dark Souls III’s base content, most notably weapon infusions. Heavy infusions, which scale damage based on the player’s Strength, will be nerfed. Other infusions, like Sharp, Blessed, Deep, Raw, and more, will see their damage and scaling buffed. The Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords and Exile Greatsword, fan-favorite weapons, will see their overall effectiveness reduced.
