We learned earlier this year that Square Enix would be making some changes to Final Fantasy XV’s divisive chapter 13, and after months of waiting the update is finally live. The chapter initially came under fire for being a jarring change of pace for the game that many found to be a chore to get through, which lead to the developers to try and address fan concerns with a free update. A trailer for this update was released showing some of the new content off, and you can check it out at the bottom of this post.
The game’s director, Hajima Tabta, said earlier this year that “The direction of chapter 13’s content was a deliberate decision made by the development team. That said, the amount of stress inflicted on the player while running through this chapter was greater than we had anticipated. We believe resolving this issue will naturally lead to a better gameplay experience.” It looks like they have done this by adding a new section to the chapter that has you controlling Gladiolus, as well as improving Noctis’ abilities to make his section easier.
Along with the update comes the patch notes for 1.06 and 1.07. 1.06 is definitely the more significant of the two updates, as it’s the one that added in the additional Gladiolus segment to chapter 13 along with the improvement to Noctis’ spells. Those weren’t the only things that were brought into the game with the update, however, as you can also view the winning snapshots from the first photo contest, listen to new music as well as there being additional improvements to the gameplay and bug fixing. Final Fantasy XV is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Tomorrow marks the release of the game’s first paid DLC called Episode Gladiolus, which puts you in control of Noctis’ powerful teammate in a brand new adventure. The content actually takes place during the events of the main game, detailing where Gladiolus went when he suddenly left the team for a brief period. That DLC costs $4.99 or can also be acquired as part of the game’s season pass, with DLC focusing on other members of the team and even a multiplayer mode slated to come later this year.
