The Final Fantasy VII Remake is well into development now, and while the release of the game is still far off we’re slowly getting more and more details regarding the changes it will be making to the original game. We recently learned about the game’s action combat and cover system that will be shaking things up, but now we’re learning more about the level of destruction that the game offers.
The game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, recently did an interview with Famitsu where he discusses some new screenshots for the game that were released. In this interview he revealed that the game’s environments will be destructible, which will likely play into the cover system that the game features. However, that won’t be where the destruction ends for the game, as it also allows you to break boss body parts similarly to how you can in Final Fantasy XV. “Map and object destruction will also happen, and there are part-based destruction elements like breaking the Guard Scorpion’s legs.”
He also went further into his decision to add a cover system to the game, saying “In the story, in situations where you’re sneaking around, you won’t just be able to march down the middle of the path. The original version had random encounters, and such parts were in the realm of imagination, but since this title is seamless and you see the path that you’re infiltrating, I decided it was necessary for the sake of realism. You can use it in ways such as to hide in cover until enemy soldiers move along, or to throw a hand grenade from cover to annihilate the enemy. Of course, those who find it bothersome can just throw themselves into the fight.”
Final Fantasy VII Remake will certainly be different compared to the original game due to updated visuals, mechanics and more, though it will also be different in how it is actually released. Whereas the first game was a 3-disc game that released all at once, it has been revealed by Square Enix that the remake will be releasing episodically. We don’t have the full details on how many episodes there will be, the pricing and how long of a gap between episodes there will be, but we do know that each episode will be the length of a full game. All we really know at this point is that it will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PlayStation 4 release happening first and the Xbox One release coming at an unspecified period after that.
