Niantic Labs may have to up the ante when it comes to ensuring the success of Pokemon GO. The mobile title appears to have a drastic drop in daily users. Its daily user count has dropped by a considerable 80-percent. This means that the consistent users of the application have dropped from its 28.5-million peak to 5-million users since the end of 2016.
The statistics are courtesy of American analytics company comScore. The firm’s data indicates that the peak user counts of the game appeared on July 6, 2016. This is the launch date of Pokemon GO. Players can look at more in-depth statistics from comScore in this link. However, a trend suggests that while spikes do appear every few updates, the user count of the game is on a steady decline. These can be noticed from the recent Halloween and Water Festival events. The application regained the top spot in app stores after the arrival of Generation 2 monsters, which introduced more than 80 Pokemon in the game. Unfortunately, numbers dwindled again after this.
It can be remembered that the game has in fact earned the top spot as the most-downloaded application in stores for a few months. Unfortunately, the numbers of daily users dwindled since September 2016. Others may point towards the steep learning curve of the title. Players will no doubt agree that earning Experience Points will become more difficult as time progresses.
Pokemon GO: Upcoming Events, Features
Despite the numbers, players can no doubt recognize the popularity of Pokemon GO since its launch. The game has earned more than US$200-million in revenue a month alone after its July 2016 release. It has since then maintained its position as the top game in application stores. The application even positioned itself as a threat to social media giants such as Twitter because of its growing popularity. It can be remembered that the Niantic Labs title has surpassed five years’ worth of Tinder (a dating application) daily users in a few weeks alone.
Regardless of the statistics, it seems Niantic Labs still has a few tricks up its sleeve. Niantic CEO John Hanke affirmed that a more developed Gym Battle system will be implemented in a few more updates. A player-versus-player (PvP) and Pokemon trading option will also arrive soon. In fact, the features would have already been in the game if not for server errors in the game’s initial launch. However, perhaps the most interesting reveal for the application was the one about a few more expansions.
Hanke also revealed that Pokemon GO will have more expansions this year. He also confirmed (via Polygon) the much-awaited arrival of Legendary Pokemon in the application. This means players can finally try to catch Legendaries such as Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres that were with the original Generation 1 monsters. Regardless of these expansions, however, it may take more than just a few Legendaries to regain the application’s success during its launch. The game can be downloaded for free in the respective iOS and Google Application Stores.
