The wearable accessory for the most recent addition to the Pokemon franchise “Pokemon Go” has sold out.
The badge allows for basic control over the game without having to have your smartphone out. It has several functions such as being able to alert the player to nearby Pokemon with flashing lights, audio and vibration – it also allows the player to catch said Pokemon with the press of a button.
The accessory for the game normally retails for around $35 and has since flown off the pre-order shelves to became a highly sought after item. So much so that keen eBay entrepreneurs have began to list their spares for some surprising prices. As yet most have sold for around double their Regular Retail Price (RRP) but some are being listed for well over $100. And if history has thought us anything – it’s that that they wont be up for long.
Did you say Pokemon is Go?
The game itself has soared in popularity even before its actual release with people finding the games Android Application Package (APK) and distributing it online. Much to the glee of old school fans it focuses on the original 151 Pocket Monsters which can appear anywhere (within reason) waiting for you to get there before someone else and grab it.
In the game you play as a customization trainer you physically walk around and become alerted to nearby Gyms, Pokemon centers, landmarks and Pokemon. At level 5 you get the opportunity to join one of three factions: Instinct, Mystic Or Valor. This allows your faction to take over areas by leaving Pokemon at that areas Gym, which will stay there until contested and beaten by another player.
Several amusing incidents have occurred as a result of the game being released. Namely a police station’s Facebook post after it was made a Pokestop and a Sandshrew appeared nearby; “For those budding Pokemon Trainers out there using Pokemon Go – whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokestop, please be advised that you don’t actually have to step inside in order to gain the pokeballs. It’s also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn’t going anywhere fast.”
Stay safe and catch ’em all!”
I for one am happy to see some light-heartedness coming from the most unexpected of places.
Only time will tell if this has the longevity of its predecessors. But if it does, we’re definitely going to see a sharp rise in well toned thighs.
