With the Season officially more than half over, Week 5 of the Summer LCS was the battle for third place. With TSM and Immortals secured at the head of the pack going 10-0 and 9-1 respectively, Cloud 9 found their third place spot under assault from fourth and fifth place Envy and Liquid.
As always, if you just want the bare bare minimum, there’s a tl;dr at the bottom of the page.
Is this Season 2?
TSM hasn’t looked this good in years. No seriously. We’re talking “Dyrus-Top-Andy-Mid” Season 2 glory days. Sitting undefeated after officially beating all the teams this Split, TSM is tearing it up. Looks like their synergy has finally turned to momentum after taking on Doublelift in the Spring. There’s serious hype surrounding these guys right now, with hopes that they’ll go all the way. Is This the End for Piglet?
Liquid killed it in Week 5, taking down both powerhouse Cloud 9, and newcomer Envy. With the upset against Cloud 9 happening last Friday, Liquid started the weekend off right, and kept their momentum by 2-0ing Envy. As controversial as it may sound, Fabbbyyy looks prime to be replacing crowd favorite Piglet as ADC, seeing how his play has net Liquid two games this week to bring them up to third. He’s been their ADC from Week 3, and Liquid has only lost one game since (and it was against powerhouse Immortals). From the way this is going, we might not be seeing Piglet on the Rift anytime soon.
You seriously don’t want to miss this weekend.
TSM goes against C9. Other than Immortals, C9 has the best chance of humbling the first place king. Not only that, both Liquid and Envy face off against IMT. Do these underdogs have what it takes to play in the top three? Will they take down the one of the most stacked teams in LCS history? There’s serious chance of an upset. It’s only going to get more exciting as we get closer to the end of the Summer Split, and these teams are teasing us with a fantastic playoff series. There’s more upset potential this split than there has been in awhile: With CLG down on their luck, and Cloud 9 struggling to stay in the top three, we could see some new powerhouses emerge. And as a TSM fan, while I most certainly am biased, it’s thrilling to see them perform better than they have in years. Stay tuned for more LCS news!
