As April comes to a close it’s time to start looking ahead to the games that we have to look forward to in May, and there are definitely some games to be excited about. There will be at least something coming out next month that should satisfy a wide spectrum of gamers out there, with strategy, horror, FPS and adventure games being just some of the genres being covered. Without further ado, lets dive into the top 5 most anticipated games of May 2017.
5 – Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia
First up we have Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, which will launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on May 19th. This game is set to bring more of the great strategy RPG elements from recent games in the series like Awakening and Fates, but this one actually isn’t a 100% new entry in the series. Instead, it is actually a full remake of the 1992 Famicom game called Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was just the second installment in the series. It will be interesting to see if they can update that game to live up to the standards of the recent 3DS games, but we’re hyped regardless.
4 – Friday the 13th: The Game
Next we have the survival horror multiplayer game Friday the 13th: The Game, which is set to release on May 26th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game pits up to 7 players taking control of Camp Crystal Lake counselors against one player controlling the killer himself, Jason Vorhees. The game was successfully funded through Kickstarter and BackerKit and raised over $2 million, making it a game that plenty of people out there are definitely waiting for. Multiplayer is set to be the game’s main focus, but a single player mode will be coming to the game via an update. Hopefully both aspects turn out well.
3 – Rime
Rime is a third-persona adventure puzzle game developed by Tequila Works, and is set to launch on May 26th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game puts players in control of a young boy who is trying to escape an island and a curse, featuring a gorgeous cel-shaded visual style. Rime has been described as a mixture of The Last Guardian and The Legend of Zelda in the past, which is a combination that sounds awesome. The game has been delayed many times and has been several years in the making now, but we’ll finally see if it was all worth the wait next month.
2 – Injustice 2
Injustice: Gods Among Us is one of the most beloved fighting games of recent memory, so it’s only fitting that Injustice 2 would be so high on this list. The sequel will feature core gameplay that is similar to its predecessor, but with some adjustments and improvements to the formula. One big change will be the Gear System, which is essentially a loot-dropping system that earns players equipment and costume pieces to customize their appearance and stats. It sounds like it will be a great addition to an already great formula, and we can’t wait to play it when it launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 14th.
1 – Prey
It was a tough call to decide which game should take the top spot on this list, but at the end of the day it has to go to Bethesda and Arkane Studios’ Prey. Gamers have been waiting for over a decade for a follow-up to the original Prey, and after Prey 2 was canceled after years of development the developers went back to the drawing board. What we have now is a rebooted and completely different game simply called Prey. Players take control of Morgan Yu as he explores the moon-orbiting space station called Talos I, where the hostile alien collective called the Typhon are being researched. Of course, things go south quickly and Morgan needs to fight for his life and figure out how to escape the space station. The battle begins on May 5th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
